Las Colinas January 23 - 26 2023
This was our first overseas trip and fortunately, judging by the emails and messages it was a success - much enjoyed by all.
A very happy group of 16 golfers, including three mixed couples, all got on well and enjoyed each others company.
I came down to the Murcia area on January 13th and, as Paul Jones had also come down early, we played both courses together, to check out the best holes for nearest the pin and longest drive prizes.
Both were in good condition and it was a joy to play on dry sandy fairways with plenty of run and receptive greens that rewarded a well struck approach shot.
Las Colinas is very challenging and renowned among local golfers as one where handicaps are rarely played to, or bettered.
Lo Romero is less taxing but the greens are VERY fast….In fact, I went onto the large practice putting green and decided to play a long putt, right up the length of it, to gauge the speed. My ball went off the end of the putting green, down a bank, across the service road and into the buggy shed! Great start.
The venue is near enough to a variety of local restaurants in Cabo Roig and Punta Prima to please every pocket, together with a smattering of obligatory Irish bars, for those who want a Guiness as a break from San Miguel.
It was a little unfortunate that the temperature decided to drop from the normal 15-16C purely for the four days of the competition.
As I write this I am still here and, as the temperature is back to it’s usual 15C, I will be having lunch out on the balcony in the warm sunshine.
I hope to run another event for a winter getaway next year and all are welcome.
Many thanks
Tony
